Residents fight library closures

Brent residents crowded into the Court of Appeal yesterday for the latest stage in their legal attempt to prevent the closure of six “treasured” libraries by the local authority.

Celebrities including the author Philip Pullman, playwright Alan Bennett, and the Pet Shop Boys are backing the campaign by residents of the north-west London borough, who argue that the closure would discriminate indirectly against Asians, Hindus and Muslims.
