The reviews I read said that this is basically an attack on organized religion, with the mystic Jesus tempted by the dogmatic Christ. Basically a retelling of the inquisitor chapter from The Brothers Karamazov. Is this so, or does Pullman take an equally strong stand against woolly, irrational mysticism?

I just completed examining through it as well and was also really astounded by that speech. It was extremely published and I discovered myself happy and saying yes in my go because everything he says there is so real.
