(with pictures by Patrice Aggs, Doubleday, 1991; the novel version, USA, Knopf in 1998; Doubleday, 2002)
This was the first book for children that I wrote. Like Spring-Heeled Jack, it was a school play to begin with. It’s a kind of funny-scary tale in the Gothic style. There are two versions, because I wrote it first as a novel in different voices. Later I made it into a mixture of text and comic-strip illustrations. Patrice Aggs’s pictures are great, especially her advertisement for BEEFO Animal Stimulant.
